Title:
Puppets of Mortal Life戏如人生
Description:
This surreal artwork springs from the ancient Chinese contemplation that life unfolds like an endless theatrical play. Zhong Kui holds string puppets within his grasp, yet high in the firmament, a towering celestial hand pulls threads for innumerable other marionettes.
No being wields ultimate command. Forces stack upon forces, evoking the timeless Eastern wisdom that beyond every visible layer lies another greater, unseen realm. The artist merges Zhong Kui with feline symbolism: Zhong Kui carries the weight of human worldly experience, entrenched within life’s great drama; the cat embodies primal intuition, quiet perception, and the instinct to sense hidden undercurrents beneath outward appearances. Their union hints at how even those steeped within mortal affairs may still glimpse the invisible mechanics shaping our reality.
Rather than delivering a definitive conclusion, this piece poses an open‑ended meditation. It invites collectors to ponder where the chains begin, how many layers of influence exist, and what it means to perform one’s part amid the grand theatre of existence. Rendered in distinctive shadow‑imprint technique, soft layered tones amplify the dreamlike, metaphysical mood and leave ample room for personal interpretation.
This artwork is a giclee art print. All golden lines on the piece are hand‑painted by the artist, and it bears the artist’s traditional Chinese cinnabar seal. This is a limited‑edition reproduction. The couplets in the photos are props for shooting only and are not included.
Suitable for hanging in living rooms, shops, studies and offices.
The artwork arrives as a fully finished mounted scroll, with free worldwide shipping included.
