Title:
Zhong Kui’s Stroll Through the Market钟馗游市
Description:
This one-of-a-kind meticulous gongbi painting adopts magical realism artistic language and belongs to the artist’s unified Zhong Kui themed series.
The artist delivers a distinctive conceptual innovation in this creation: he skillfully integrates the upright, impartial divine bearing of Zhong Kui with a cat’s innate sharp senses, keen eye for fine details and alert observational instinct. Endowed with an innate ability to perceive every subtle movement hidden amid bustling crowds, the feline avatar perfectly echoes Zhong Kui’s identity as an upright guardian who witnesses all worldly phenomena and judges right from wrong.
Positioned prominently at the central axis of the composition, the larger-than-life cat-form Zhong Kui stands steady and impartial, serving as the eternal moral anchor amid the ever-changing mortal world. Surrounding him unfolds a panoramic scroll of vivid mortal lives that stretches across time: time-honored antique establishments like Rongbaozhai and traditional ghost market stalls operated by ancient-style vendors coexist seamlessly alongside modern street scenes featuring delivery riders riding through the crowd.
By weaving classical antiquated imagery and contemporary urban vignettes within one frame, the artwork constructs a profound artistic proposition: time flows forward endlessly, yet timeless righteousness and noble spiritual principles represented by Zhong Kui never fade away. All mortal hustle, prosperity and worldly activities revolve around eternal integrity and goodness.
Layered auspicious blessings are embedded within this grand scene: traversing the ghost market symbolizes discovering hidden treasures, unexpected opportunities and latent wealth in life’s journey; witnessing prosperous bustling mortal streets foretells thriving fortune, abundant social connections and smooth progress in all undertakings for the collector.
